Perhaps the most important concept in mosaics, Andamento is the visual flow and direction of a mosaic which is created by the placement of tesserae in specific patterns.

      •Marble, Granite, Quartz, Stone

      •Smalti, Glass, Ceramic, Clay   

     •Found Objects: Shells, Beads

 A mosaic substrate typically refers to the surface or base layer upon which mosaic tiles are applied. This substrate can be made of various materials, depending on the location and application.

Refers to the gaps or spaces between the small pieces of material (tesserae) that make up the mosaic. They play a crucial role in defining the image and creating visual interest

 Opus" in mosaic art refers to the different ways tesserae (small cubes) are arranged to create various patterns and effects. There are several types of "opus," each with its own characteristic style and purpose.

 A method where tesserae are placed face-down on a temporary surface, then transferred onto the final surface with permanent adhesive.
